My Fantasy Mermaid Wardrobe

Now if there’s a Disney princess that’s had the biggest impact on women’s fashion, its Ariel. Since she hit the scene, girls all over the world have been snapping up mermaid inspired clothing and accessories, and I’m not above following this trend!

I couldn’t resist this clam bra crop top from Lookhuman when I stumbled across it last year, and this year I’m looking to add to my wardrobe, so I’ve been doing a little window shopping online and putting together a Fantasy Wardrobe, if you will, starting off with killer swimsuits..

Mermaid swimsuit

Left to right – Baby Ariel Top and Scalloped Bottoms from Margarita Swimwear, Kalama One Piece from PeaceofParadise, Dreamboat Bikini from Margarita Swimwear

So I discovered Margarita Swimwear this week, and I think I’ve become addicted. I entered their Instagram giveaway competition and didn’t win, but they’re giving away discount codes to everyone who entered so I’m super excited to receive mine! This year I’m trying really hard to eat healthier and along with my running training I’m hoping that this will be the year I lose enough weight to be truly happy in a bikini, and these suits are my goal!

Mermemerald leggings from Black Milk Clothing

I love Black Milk, they just do everything perfectly. If I could afford it, I would literally own everything from their Disney collection, but for now I think I’ll just covet these great leggings.

CORAL Urban Mermaid Crop Top

Coral Urban Mermaid Crop Top from Adorkable Apparel

I know I already have a similar top, but you can never really have too many clam bras?! I love the colour, coral is very mermaid-y, and the t-shirt style makes it perfect as a beach cover up.

Guess I better start saving if this wardrobe is ever gonna happen!

Marie Inspired DIY Tank Top

This week for my DIY I took inspiration from one pretty kitty..

SONY DSC

Transform a plain old white t-shirt into a cute little tank top perfect for the beach in just a few simple steps..

1. Take a pair of scissors to your t-shirt, cutting off the sleeves, then cutting across the stitching at the top, separating the neckline.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

2. Flip the top over, and make bigger cuts across the back to make a racer-back.

SONY DSC

3. Fold over the hem of this back section and stitch it down. Depending on your strap material, you may want to feed it through before you sew it down.

SONY DSC

4. The strap is a single strip of material; I used Boodle textile yarn for my straps, but you could use whatever you fancied really. Controversially, I believe there is a thing as too much pink, so I chose blue to reflect Marie’s eyes. Once you’ve fed it through the back, pin it into place at each side of the front, and sew into place.

SONY DSC

5. Using fabric paint, I decorated the back of my top with a large pink bow, and put a few little paw prints on the front.

SONY DSC

Ta-da!

Beautifully Disney – Alice in Wonderland Mini Lipsticks

This week’s theme is the gloriously bizarre Lewis Carroll classic: Alice in Wonderland.

SONY DSC

On my last Disney World trip, I decided to treat the lipstick addict in me to one of the Beautifully Disney mini lipstick sets. After flicking through the various sets, I chose the Alice in Wonderland set based on the colours all being ones I know suit me.

The set was $24.95, which is about £16, so £4 per lipstick, and that didn’t seem totally unreasonable to me as I pay £5-10 for a full-size lipstick back home. And the really are quite mini..

SONY DSC

Next to one of my Barry M lipsticks, which are the smallest ones I own, it looks diddy. The packaging is very basic and plastic, but the box the set comes in is really sweet, I can’t bring myself to get rid of it!

So onto the colours! Please bear in mind I am not a beauty blogger, or even a regular makeup wearer, and other the the lipstick I’m not wearing any other makeup in the photos, and they aren’t edited so what you get is me and my honest opinions..

1. Curiouser..

SONY DSC

Curiouser is almost nude in colour, but is packed with glitter to give a little bit of sparkle.

SONY DSC

Its a little pinker than my lips, and the glitter really makes an impact so despite the nude-ish colour, I wouldn’t wear it on a day to day basis.

2. Dum de Dum

SONY DSC

Orange! I love orange lipstick, so this made me so excited.

SONY DSC

I was a little disappointed. You’d need to layer and layer it on in order to see more than a tinge of orange, which I imagine for those who aren’t quite so into orange lipstick would like as its very subtle, but for me I kinda wish it had had a little more to it.

3. Rosebud

SONY DSC

This is my absolute favourite, I wear it all the time. Its not quite so red as it appears in the picture above, but its a little darker than my lips, so gives a really nice hint of colour, while maintaining a very natural look.

SONY DSC

4. Mad As A..

SONY DSC

Stay with me now, its not as drastic as you may think. Yes it looks very dark, but I gave it a try, and I really do like it, although I wouldn’t wear it every day.

SONY DSC

You need a steady hand or a good lip liner, because the deep colour means any slight wobbles in your application is gonna show, but the beauty of that means you can also add to the shape of your lips or add more definition.

They’re not professional makeup by any means, and you do pay a slight premium for the Disney name, but they’re good little lipsticks. The size is perfect for popping in a pocket or small purse, but you might find yourself losing them in a big handbag.

Dalmatian Fashion

I’m really excited to announce its 101 Dalmatians week! I know I say this about most Disney films, but it really holds a special place in my heart; I’ve always been a dog person, but I think that was cemented with a love for 101 Dalmatians as a child. I had wall stickers all over my bedroom and still have a few lurking around that I can’t bring myself to take down!

So today I’m featuring a few of my favourite inspired items!

1. Black Milk Toastie Leggings

2. Cruella De Vil Tank Top from Hot Topic

3. Slim Wallet from Asos

Rapunzel and Flynn

So this week is a little off the cuff, I was planning on doing Sleeping Beauty this week but one thing lead to another and now its Tangled week! Tangled is without a doubt one of my absolute favourite Disney classic and I don’t keep that fact much of a secret; if you’re a regular reader you probably already know that.

So today I’m putting together Disneybounding outfits for both Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, cos who says us girls can’t smolder too?! (As per usual, click the pictures to link through)

Punzie is fairly easy, you could really wear any lilac/purple-y dress, but I’ve picked out two from the Asos sale for examples.

Image 1 of ASOS Cami Mini Pleated Dress

I love the daisy chain straps of the first dress, what with flowers being a running theme through the film, but the second is a little more fitted, like Rapunzel’s, and has a tie back which reflects the front of her dress a little.

Now I know she’s barefoot through the film, and personally I could live barefoot, but unfortunately can’t 😦

ASOS MARDY Gladiator T-Bar Shoes ASOS FRUITY Jelly Sandals

I was a jelly sandals child, but haven’t yet managed to bring myself to get a pair since they’ve come back into fashion, but I bet if Punz had a pair, that’s totally what she’d be wearing.

Plait your hair, stick some flowers in and you’re good to go!

Careful, here comes the smolder..

If you’ve checked out my Disney bucket list, you’ll know meeting Flynn Rider in Disney World is something I’m dying to do. I did get to see him in the Festival of Fantasy parade though; he winked at me, I fangirled so hard.. But I’m getting off topic now..

Image 1 of New Look Military Shirt

Get a blue shirt (this one is from New Look) and roll up those sleeves. Depending on whether you’d cook or not, wear it on top of a long sleeve white/cream top, like Flynn.

Image 1 of Glamorous Cargo Trouser

Team that with a pair of cargo trousers, like these from Glamorous, and pop on a brown belt, like this Asos choice.

Finish the look off with some brown boots, another New Look option.

Now where’s my satchel..?

Disneybound: Sorceror Mickey

I knew it wouldn’t take long for chronological order to go out the window! I’m skipping to Fantasia this week, so from here on out, film weeks will be in a random order.

I think Fantasia is totally underrated; its a classic, but most people overlook it, forgetting that it brings one of the best and most well known scenes of any Disney film: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Sorcerer Mickey holds a special place in my heart; I can’t really explain it, I just think its one of Mickey’s best roles and let’s face it, the outfit is so cute!

On my Disney World trip, I knew I wanted to buy Mickey ears, but despite the huge collection, nothing really captured me until I came across these beauties in Hollywood Studios:

SONY DSC

So I took inspiration from my favourite mouse, and put together a little salute to his classic look! (excuse my camera face, I can’t take a photo on my beast of a camera without pulling it!)

SONY DSC

I found this wrap-front red dress in the Asos sale (£10 bargain!), and made myself a belt using a gold dressing gown tie that I found in my local fabric shop, although you could easily use any rope or cord you fancy.

SONY DSC

Topped off with my ears, it makes the perfect Disneybounding outfit, or a subtle fancy dress costume!

Disney Princess Converses

I live in Converse All-Stars; have done ever since I got my first pair over 6 years ago. My entire shoe collection, with the exception of one pair of sandals, one pair of heels and two pairs of boots, consist of Converses – high tops for winter and low tops for summer is how I see it!

My dad is also a huge wearer of Converses, and often uses his creative talents to create his own personalised ones on the Converse website’s ‘Design Your Own’ feature, which inspired this Fashion Tuesday post..

In my opinion, All Stars are the best shoes for wearing around Disney parks; lightweight and cool enough for Florida heat, with a solid sole to support your feet, and incredibly hard-wearing. And while they come in a spectacular range of colours and patterns, none of them are Disney enough.. So I spent an evening creating Disney Princess themed shoes, using just the DYO app on the Converse website, and here’s what I came up with:

1. Snow White

1 Snow

2. Cinderella

3. Aurora

4. Ariel

DIY Maleficent Horns

So this week I FINALLY got round to watching Maleficent, about time, am I right?

Well it’s fairly safe to say I loved it; when it came out I thought it looked a bit dark, which is was a little in places, but I was pleasantly surprised by how family friendly it actually was 🙂

So with Halloween coming up, inspiration hit as I went to chuck an old kitchen roll tube in the recycling, and in literally a matter of minutes I had my first horn, so set about making these:

SONY DSC

This was honestly the quickest and easiest DIY project I have ever done: all the supplies are things you’ve probably got lying around the house, and I don’t think I spent more than 15/20 minutes, with results I’m pretty happy with!

So here’s how you can make your own:

First you’ll need your supplies: two kitchen roll tubes, a pair of scissors, black tape, an old/unused headband and your preferred method of sticking (I used a hot glue gun, but you could just use more tape, superglue of a bit of fairy magic)

SONY DSC

Take your cardboard tubes, and cut a straight slit just over half way down:

SONY DSC

Use this slit to fold the top half into an almost cone:

SONY DSC

And secure with tape:

SONY DSC

With the cone secured, start covering the tube completely with tape. Don’t worry about overlapping or the odd wrinkle, it all adds to the character!

SONY DSC

To make the tips of the horns, cut a length of tape and stick it so it overlaps the top of the cone, and wrap it around itself to make a point:

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

You can then build on this base with more tape to make a firmer point, and bend it into the curve:

SONY DSC

And you’ve got yourself a horn!

Now to shape it to your head better, take your scissors and cut the bottom corner:

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

With that, all you need to do is set about attaching your horns to a headband. The only one I could find lying about the house was one from a previous costume, hence the weird attachments, but that actually worked to my advantage as it meant I had something to glue to:

SONY DSC

So they’re not exactly fresh out of the Disney costume department, but for only a few minutes work they make a great DIY costume accessory 🙂

Princess Fashion: Elsa

So this week’s posting is going to be a little jumbled.. I’m super busy preparing for my birthday and a wedding at the end of the week, as well as finishing training for a 10k at the weekend, but I’m doing loads of Disney related stuff so it’ll be fueling a tonne of posts!

This Elsa look centres around this amazing new dress from Hot Topic which I stumbled across yesterday

Isn’t it perfect?!

Its so perfect that it basically covers the entire outfit aspect of the look, but I’ve scoured the internet for a few suitably perfect accessories to add to it..

There’s this aquamarine ring from Sarah Birt Jewellery on Etsy:

These shimmery shoes from are from New Look, and are also available on Asos..

So is this clutch bag:

A Mickey-inspired Winter Look

So I was out shopping with a girlfriend today, and as two, not-entirely-broke-but-on-a-budget girls, h&m is our haven. And that’s where I came across this little beauty of a beanie hat, and at the same time as completely falling in love with it, inspiration struck!

I know its still a little early to be thinking about really, but its time to start preparing your wardrobe for winter, so here’s a Mickey Mouse inspired look to get you started 🙂

Obviously you’re gonna be needing this hat:

Then there’s this sweet little swing dress from ASOS

But its cold, so don’t forget to wear tights! These are from Primark, and are also available on eBay

And a hint of red with these suede boots from Office

Just how sweet are these handmade fingerless gloves from Xasper8ing on Etsy?!

Top 10 Disney Kigu Onesies

If there’s anything ebay sellers do best, its onesies. You could probably search for anything and someone somewhere is making it in onesie form..

Days til Disney Countdown – 14 days to go! (With Elsa, Anna and Olaf!)

There are loads of fun ways to count down the days til your next Disney trip, from big cross-off calendars to movie marathons.

The girls and I, however, decided that in order to share the countdown with everyone in the group, we’d have a bit of dressing up fun..

SONY DSC

To celebrate 2 weeks until our trip, we’ve spent our day dressing up as our favourite characters and re-inacting scenes from the classics – using a little artistic licence in places!

We printed our outlines of Mickey, and each decorated a few each 🙂

SONY DSC

Frozen is the girls’ (and everyone’s, really) favourite film at the moment, so this was an obvious choice for the first day of the countdown, and while Bella lacks Elsa’s ice white hair, Soph is a spitting image of Anna. Liv, meanwhile, plays a silly little Olaf, and yes that’s a sweet potato nose due to a lack of a carrot!

Two weeks til Disney!!! 😀

Disney Packing Must-Have #2

Little Mermaid

A swimsuit

While you might be thinking ‘duh, of course I’ll need a swimsuit!’, but its important that you bring an all-in-one style suit as well as a two piece bikini, and the reason for that is science..

Picture the scene: Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, scorching Florida day, nice big slide opening out into a pool full of people, and while gravity might be pulling your body down, your top is going to want to stay put and fly back up. Its happened to everyone, embarrassing or what?

So save the bikini for the hotel pool or lying out in the sun, and save your dignity by packing a one-piece for the waterparks! 🙂

Disney Tights

In my opinion, trousers are overrated. If I could, I’d spend most days Donald Duck style (with underwear though, of course!), but unfortunately this isn’t socially acceptable in most places..

So I live in dresses, skirts and shorts, which means when the weather is bad, as it so often is in England, tights are my best friends! And while most people overlook them as functional but boring, I know that they can add to any outfit.

Standby for the movie workout, coming soon!

Why get #fitfordisney?

Alongside a number of other upcoming events in my life, Disney is a big reason for improving my fitness levels.

‘Why do I need to be fit to go to Disneyworld?’

Yes, its a theme park, not an assault course, but there are still a number of reasons for hitting the gym before your trip;

1. You underestimate how much walking you’re going to do – the average guest covers around 7 miles per day in the park (I’m going to do some research on this during my trip with the help of my Fitbit), and if you’re not accustomed to walking long distances, or if you’re going in the scorching summer season, it can be a shock to the system.

photo 3 (5)

2. Disney food is to die for – the last thing you want on your holiday is to be on a diet; where’s the fun in that?! With ice-cream sandwiches, bakeries on every corner and some of the coolest restaurants in the world, you shouldn’t have to be concerned with calorie counting, skipping meals or feeling guilty about what you eat.

photo 1 (6)

3. Disney workout clothes – check out what Lookhuman have to offer, but Etsy and other places have amazing stuff too!

photo 4 (4)

4. If you’re going to run just one distance race in your life, runDisney – runDisney organise running weekends and festivals, and yes, the course you run is around the parks! Each weekend/festival usually has a 5k, 10k and half marathon, as well as a Fitness Expo, and these events run throughout the year at both Disney World Florida and Disneyland California. A runDisney half marathon is very high on my Disney bucketlist!

photo 1 (7)

5. Looking good on your holiday – whether its a summer bikini body or just slimming down for photos, a holiday is one of the most common reasons people give for wanting to get fit. It also gives you an excuse to splurge on new clothes, especially if you’re going to be hitting the outlets!

I’m not a total selfie nut, promise! These pictures are from my Instagram @lottiedoesdisney and I tag my workout pictures with #fitfordisney 🙂
