My Blogging Confessions

A little while back I wrote my Disney Confessions, and I had so much fun doing it that I thought I’d confess to more stuff, this time as a blogger!

1. I have never scheduled a tweet

Blogging 101 failed. Every single annoying promo tweet you see was actually typed out by me at the time and I hit the tweet button. I keep meaning to look into scheduling – I’ll have to for when I’m away in July! – but its not a priority for me right now!

2. I’m a little bit terrified of chats

Other than the Disney Blogger Chat on a Thursday night, I’m always just a little bit too shy to join in with other chats! I went through a period of doing some, but at the moment I’m struggling to find the time or confidence..

3. My marble background is grossly underused

For starters, its actually sticky back plastic on a piece of Contiboard, but actually I’m really not a huge fan of it! It works so beautifully for some blogs, but I’m more into bold and colourful tones!

4. I do 90% of my blogging under a blanket on my sofa

And probably wearing pyjamas. We all do that though, right?

5. Most of my photos are unedited

When I do edit them, its on a free bit of software that I’ve used for about 6 years because I’m too scared to try anything else

6. I don’t subscribe on YouTube

Quite honestly, I hardly ever use YouTube. When I see my favourite vloggers post new videos, I’ll watch them, but I’m not subscribed to any of them and I’m not even sure I have a proper YT account. I will, however, always share your pleas for subscribers!

7. I don’t have, or see the point of Facebook pages for my blog

I see Facebook and Twitter as very different things. I think Twitter is for promoting yourself, and Facebook is for keeping up with friends, and all I ever see is people complaining about how few likes they get on their Facebook page. Really, I would never read a blog I loved and think ‘oh wow, I must go and find their Facebook page’..

8. I bulk-shoot a tonne of photos for Instagram when the sun is out

Y’know, just in case it goes away and never comes back. Typically I’ll take maybe like 10-15 photos and save them for days when I don’t have anything better to post.

9. I don’t use spreadsheets

I see so many super-organised bloggers sharing their tips on blog-planning using spreadsheets and colour codes and I’m just sat here with a notebook and a pencil, ticking things off as I go..

10. I fangirl a little when amazing bloggers respond to me on Twitter

Even if they just like my tweet, its enough for me. Bloggers be amazing.

Got anything to confess?

Mickey Rainbow-ade

While sorting through our kitchen cupboards, we came across our Mickey ice cube tray, and inspiration hit..

So I got started making these colourful ice cubes (just water with food colouring, although you could use fruit juices).

While these would be cute in any drink, you can use them to create a drink all of its own..

Rainbow-ade!

And it couldn’t be easier:

Stack up the ice-Mickeys in a tall glass, add lemonade, and you’re good to go!

DIY Mickey Pizza

Now this is a saying I live by, and pizza is no exception.

There is, however, a major lack of Mickey Mouse shaped pizza in local supermarkets, so I thought why not combine a love of Mickey-shaped grub with a love of cooking and make it even more fun by getting the girls involved!

SONY DSC

You will need:

Pizza bases (homemade or store-bought) – 2 small and one medium/large

Pizza toppings – tomato sauce, cheese, ham, pepperoni, anything you fancy!

Mickey Mouse cookie cutter

Large baking tray

Depending on just how Mickey-themed you’re feeling, use the cookie cutter to make shapes from your chosen toppings.

With 3 girls, sharing the shape of Mickey was relatively easy (one for each circle). Once the basic tomato base is down, let the kids go nuts with their own toppings.

And then arrange the pizzas on the baking tray! If you don’t have a large enough tray, you can always bake each mini pizza separately and save arranging the shape before serving.

SONY DSC

Bake as required (depends on your pizza base), around 10-15 mins in a medium oven.

And voila! Quick, easy, fun and delicious, and a fab way to keep that Disney excitement going!

Why not save this for the day before you leave? 🙂

Pre-Disney Movie Marathon

If, like us, you booked your Disney holiday very much in advance (over a year in our case!), it can be hard to keep that initial ‘WE’RE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!’ excitement alive, especially with little ones.

Countdowns are great, but over 350 days can lose their impact, so are probably best saved for the final run up, but I wanted something to keep my girls excited for our trip, and also ensure they’re fully educated on Disney films and characters (I always worry, coming from a generation who were raised on the classics, that kids these days don’t know of some of the lesser known, older gems such as Hercules and Atlantis), so I came up with..

A year long Disney movie marathon! You could obviously shorten the length of your marathon, depending on how long it is until your holiday, but for us it worked out to one Disney movie a week (we started with 43 weeks to go), taking us right up to our departure!

Movie Night Girls

Once a week I pick the girls up from school, we pick a film, I make popcorn and snacks, and we get cosy on the sofa to enjoy the film. The girls like picking the film, and if they can’t agree on one between the three of them, they take turns to choose, and I just like re-watching my favourite childhood films – I get a lot more of the references now – and having the excuse to buy Disney DVDs (check out how I get FREE DVDs here!)

FREE Personalised Park Maps!

Yes, you read right – totally free!

Pop on over to Disney’s customised map maker to create your own park maps, which you can print off at home or have delivered to your home address (US only though – shame!)

It couldn’t be simpler – pick your favourite attractions to be highlighted on your map for each park, select a theme, and print/ship! Disney veterans may know exactly which rides to hit up on their trips, but if you’re a Disney first-timer, you can choose a ‘pre-set menu’ of attractions; there are suggestions designed specifically for pre-schoolers, big kids, teens or all ages.

You can create maps for each of the four parks, and everyone in the family can make their own! It’s a great way to make the kids feel like they are contributing to the planning process, and if you’re making a scrapbook of your trip, why not make one selecting your favourite rides and attractions!

Look how cute they are!
